News - Tourism in Spain is still booming business!

Despite the crisis, tourism in Spain enjoys its 4th best year, with forecasts expecting to receive over 57 million tourists by the end of 2011.

The UK is still Spain´s most important tourism market (20% of the total tourism income), followed by Germany and France. There has been a noticeable increase in foreign visitors coming from countries like The United States and Italy.

During the high season (July, August and September) more than 21 million international tourists visited Spain, an increase of 8.5% compared with 2010. Leisure and holiday were the main motives for travelling to Spain. It appears that foreign tourists coming to Spain stay longer and spend more money, while the Spanish travelling in their own country spend less.

Catalonia was the most popular destination with nearly 2 million tourists in August, followed by the Communidad Valencia and Madrid.
